Initially, when I found out the Codex of Fortune theme was a French Art Nouveau theme, I was curious to play the game. However, I felt that the action was underwhelming. The visuals feature a blue background, where the animal-inspired jewels and card values appear. The red lion has the highest payout of all the symbols, where 5 on a payline reward 5x a stake.

There’s also a jewel-encrusted key that represents the wild symbol. It can land anywhere on the reels and replace all the other symbols except the scatter and +10 symbols. If you look towards the left of the reels, you’ll see the Codex Meter, which plays a part during the bonus feature rounds.

Codex of Fortune seemed like a tame slot until I stumbled upon the bonus feature round.

Fortune Wins feature: The Fortune Wins feature is a bonus round activated when the free spins and re-spins start. My objective was to collect any special symbols that would land during a spin, triggering bonus prizes.

The prize values appear in a meter beside the reels. There are 7 levels to climb, each with 5 steps. If any key symbols land, they take the player a level higher, while the bonus prizes increase in value.

The prizes reach 10,000x a stake when you make it to level 7. Unfortunately, I only managed level 5, where a 1,000x stake payout was my prize.

Fortune Re-Spins feature: This feature starts when 2 scatters land next to a standard winning combination on a single spin. One of the standard symbols on the triggering spin will turn into the collection symbol. A re-spin will follow with the reels comprised of blanks, a collectible symbol, and the key symbol.

Any new collectable that appears on the reels is added to the meter before a re-spin starts. If a key lands, a new level unlocks where bigger prizes are available. Re-spins keep going until no more collectible symbols, or keys can land. You can now proceed to the Save the Keys feature.

Save the Keys feature: You can use the keys you won in the previous feature to collect your prize. Alternatively, you may save your keys for the free spins feature and reset the meter to Level 1. Now, the keys can help you climb the levels and trigger the free spins feature.

Free Spins feature: The Codex of Fortune free spins begin when 3 scatters land on the reels on one spin. So, when the feature starts, a 3-tier mini wheel appears and spins to determine how many spins you win from 7 to 13. It also shows how many keys you get, the collectible symbols, and level-ups.

Like before, any collectible symbols that land will reflect in the meter. If the +10 symbol lands, they also fill the meter with 10 new symbols. If the meter has 20 symbols, players proceed to the next level. If any +1 symbols land, they add extra free spins to your tally.

My personal take on Codex of Fortune slots

Codex of Fortune started a bit dull, but then the bonus feature round ended up surprising me. My heart would race every time I entered the Fortune Re-Spins feature. The range of bonuses was a clever addition to the Codex of Fortune slot because different players like different things. I liked the high RTP rating too, so in the end, rating Codex of Fortune at 7.5/9 felt natural.
